    SENIORS

 

SENIOR LUNCH PASS:  Seniors – this is what you have all been waiting for.  The Senior Lunch Pass Applications are now available at the Attendance Office before school, break, lunch and after school only.  Applications will not be handed out during class time.  You must have a valid senior I.D. card to get an application.  The deadline to turn in the application is 2:45 pm on Friday, February 10th. CAP & GOWN LATE ORDER FORMS:  Seniors – if you have not ordered your cap and gown, see Mrs. Stewart in the Activities Office for the cap & gown late order form.  Do not wait until the last minute. (Stewart)

 

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS:  The January scholarship bulletin is in the Guidance Office or on the Highland website. (Lozano)

 

CLUBS

 

AVID CLUB:  There will be a special AVID Club meeting afterschool on Monday, February 6th, in room 115 to discuss Valentine activities.  Any student wishing to purchase a BRAND NEW AVID 2011-2012 t-shirt may do so at the Student Store for $10.  Bring t-shirt receipts to room 206, Ms. Gonzales’ room, before school or to room 111, Ms. Kane’s room, after school or during “B” lunch to collect your shirt. PARANORMAL ACTIVITY RESEARCH TEAM: The Paranormal Activity Research Team will return to its regular weekly meeting schedule this Monday, February 6th.  Come and help plan our exciting activities for second Semester.  The Paranormal Team meets right after school in Room 227.  See you on Monday! CHEMISTRY CLUB: There is a mandatory Chemistry Club meeting on Monday, February 6th, at 3:00pm in room 220. Bring a friend!

 

COLLEGE CLUB:  There will be a College Club meeting on Friday the 3rd after school in Room 214.  We will discuss FASFA. (E. Coleman)

 

KEY CLUB DCON:  It's time for DCON which will be held April 13th thru April 15th in Santa Clara. The Student Store will begin accepting payments until Friday, February 24th.  We will be taking no more than 20 Students and it is "first come, first served".  You must meet the minimum requirements which include 20 Service Hours and regular attendance at meetings.  (Wright)

 

 SOLUTIONS CLUB:  It is a new year and the Solutions Club want to remind everyone that they meet every Tuesday.  “A” lunch meets in Room 124 and “B” lunch meets in Room 112.  We are working many solutions to help Highland and our community.  See you there. (Baumgartner)

 

SPORTS

 

J.V. SOFTBALL TRYOUTS:  J.V. softball tryouts are now being held.  Paperwork must be completed before you are cleared to practice.  Any questions, see Coach Morrow. (Morrow)

 

BOYS TENNIS PLAYERS:  Attention all returning and new boys’ tennis players - the new season is finally here.  If you intend on being a part of the "BULLDOGS 2012” season, you need to turn in your completed paper work to Ms. Myers ASAP.  All students interested in playing on the tennis team need to attend a meeting after school on Wednesday, February 8th outside the Athletics Office.   See you there.  (Coach Williams)

 

GENERAL

 

 COLLEGE WORKSHOP:  Juniors - Planning on going to college?  Get more info on what to do.  The Counselors will host a college information workshop on Thursday, February 9th, during 4th period “A” and “B” lunch, and after school at 2:45PM in Room 109.  See you there. (Shim)

 

UCLA REPRESENTATIVE:  Seniors & Juniors:  A representative from UCLA will be here to talk about transferring and general information during 3rd period on Thursday, February 16th.  Come to the Guidance Office to sign up and pick up a pass.  (Lozano)

 

PAWS TO BE KIND THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:  Paws-To-Be Kind Thought of the Day – in the words of actress, Whoopi Goldberg “When you are kind to someone in trouble, you hope they’ll remember and be kind to someone else.  And it’ll become like wildfire.”

 

TEENS FOR JEANS:  Interested in winning a pair of Aeropostale jeans?  Help Highland’s ASB in participating in Teens for Jeans.  Bring any size or brand of used jeans to the ASB Room during “A” lunch or give them to an ASB member ASAP.  The school that donates the most jeans will win a pair of jeans for every student in the school.  GO DAWGS!  (Gadomski)

 

ANNUAL COMIC BOOK COMPETITION: The deadline for the Annual Original Comic Book Competition is fast approaching. All submissions must be turned into the Anime Club in room 203 by Monday, March 11th to participate in the screening event. See Ms. Hamill in room 203 for more information. (Hamill)

 

DR PHIL SHOW:  A few Seats are still available for the Dr. Phil TV taping sponsored by Highland Players on February 8th.

You have until the end of “B” lunch on Friday, February 3rd, to get your permission slips and receipt for $10 turned in to Mrs. Self in P-3. Hurry! They’re going fast! It’s sure to be a fun and informative day. (Mrs. Self)

 

WORK EXPIERENCE:  The Work Experience Class meets every Thursday.  Attendance is mandatory. (J. Root)

 

NEWS FROM YEARBOOK STAFF: The Yearbook Staff is offering a great opportunity to save money on the yearbook purchase and advertise seniors accomplishments.  Deadline for placing senior ads is February 29, 2012.  The price of the yearbooks are still $100.00.
